What
The Town of Fairhaven Board of Health has been awarded a $28,303.00 grant from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection as part of a mattress recycling program. The program has already begun and will continue for the next five years (2024). The grant will allow for the collection and recycling of residential mattresses.
How
Residents will need to call the Board of Public Works to make an appointment as well as transport their mattress to the Board of Public Works building at 5 Arsene Street and are required to pay a $45.00 fee per mattress. Residents who cannot handle unloading their mattress must bring help to do so.
Why
The Health Department is in full understanding that the disposal of mattresses in our Town is quite difficult for our residents. Due to many circumstances, a vast majority of mattresses are left at curbside or in the yards of residential properties. We are very pleased to be awarded available grant funds that will aid in the collection and recycling of mattresses throughout the Town of Fairhaven. With the availability of grant funding, our goal is to advance recycling and waste reduction.
