Solid Waste and Recycling

Getting rid of household trash can be complicated these days. Most landfills are closed. Many disposal facilities limit themselves to commercial vehicles. Further, many cannot accept items determined to be recyclable – the newest being construction and demolition debris. Finally, some waste-to-energy plants cannot accept materials such as mattresses and couches, as the springs can foul their machinery.

Fairhaven does offer many options for its residents, including:

  • Weekly Curbside Collection of Trash and Recycling
  • Special Collections of:
    • Bulky Items – – 1 item per week at curb on trash day (change to pick-up of bulky items needs to be scheduled directly with E.L. Harvey by calling 1-800-310-9111. There will be a charge invoiced to the customer of $25 (for non-freon/non-metal items) and a charge of $35 for metal and freon items.  This pick-up fee will be paid directly by the resident to E. L. Harvey).
    • Leaf Collection – Fall Collection Days.
    • Christmas Trees –  Special Curbside Collection, at, well, Christmas time.
  • Many items can be brought to the Yard Waste and Recycling Drop-Off Center, Arsene Street. An annual permit is required, as well as fees for many items. Click here for directions to the Recycling Drop-Off Center.
  • Household Hazardous Waste – Usually every fall.
  • The Mattapoisett Transfer Station is open to Fairhaven residents. An annual permit is required, as well as fees for many items.
