SUMMARY:An Evening with Nathaniel Philbrick
DESCRIPTION:TIME & LOCATION\n\n\nOct 17\, 2025\, 6:30 PM \nFairhaven Town Hall Auditorium (2nd Floor)\, 40 Center St\, Fairhaven\, MA 02719\, USA \n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE EVENT\n\n\n\nThe Fairhaven Historical Society is pleased to announce a lecture by Nathaniel Philbrick. The inaugural event of our Debra Charpentier Lecture Series. Debra was a woman whose dedication to our town’s history continues to inspire us all. \n \nThis event is free and open to the public. Donations are appreciated. \n \nFrom the author of Mayflower\, Valiant Ambition\, and In the Hurricane’s Eye–the riveting bestseller tells the story of the true events that inspired Melville’s Moby-Dick. \n \nWinner of the National Book Award\, Nathaniel Philbrick’s book is a fantastic saga of survival and adventure\, steeped in the lore of whaling\, with deep resonance in American literature and history. \n \nIn 1820\, the whaleship Essex was rammed and sunk by an angry sperm whale\, leaving the desperate crew to drift for more than ninety days in three tiny boats. Nathaniel Philbrick uses little-known documents and vivid details about the Nantucket whaling tradition to reveal the chilling facts of this infamous maritime disaster. In the Heart of the Sea\, adapted into a major feature film starring Chris Hemsworth\, is a book for the ages. \n \nIf you are interested in becoming a sponsor\, we will be recognizing sponsorships of $250.00 and over on our social media pages and will guarantee front section seating. \n \nDonation link: https://www.historicalsocietyfairhaven.org/about \n \nFor information about sponsorship\, please email info@historicalsocietyfairhaven.org \n \nTo learn more about the Fairhaven Historical Society\, please visit\, www.historicalsocietyfairhaven.org \n \nWe look forward to seeing you there!
